WHAT IS A WORD OF LIFE VOLUNTEER?

Welcome to the online application process for Word of Life (WOL) volunteers! We are thankful that you are seeking to serve the Lord Jesus Christ with your life and that you are prayerfully considering partnering with Word of Life in this way. Below you will see a summary of what a WOL volunteer is. These include your responsibilities and WOL’s expectations for our volunteers. Please read over the following and we would be happy to answer any questions that you may have.

A Word of Life Volunteer is a believer in Christ who has a calling from God to serve in a variety of areas within the ministry of Word of Life.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Formally express your agreement with the Statement of Faith and Standard of Conduct.
  2. Explicitly adhere to WOL guidelines in fundamental matters like doctrinal position, mission statement and ministry vision while volunteering on our properties.
  3. Have a biblical approach in responding to the leadership of WOL authorities.
  4. Make the best effort to fulfill the objectives and goals of WOL with diligence and excellence in every area under your responsibility.
  5. Use discretion outside Word of Life while wearing any Word of Life apparel.

EXPECTATIONS

  1. Fulfill the number of work hours per week as determined by the NVP policy. Be a good steward of ministry time.
  2. Understand that there are instances where there is an exceptional demand for ministry time especially during busier camp weeks.
  3. Serve with a team spirit, contributing to the unity of the team under the WOL vison and developing healthy relationships with team member, staff, guests and campers.
  4. Be aware of the parameters under which you were invited to serve and seek approval from the appropriate person for any other undertaking.

In summary, Word of Life expects every volunteer to be fully invested during your tenure of volunteering.

Memorial Day & Columbus Day Weekend

Both of these Weekend Work Retreats are free to all volunteers! Memorial Day Weekend teams will be working to get The Bible Institute, The Island, The Ranch and Ridge, and The Pines prepared for the summer. The Columbus Day Weekend team will be working to close the Lewis Lodge, picnic area, playground, meeting house, and campsites at The Pines. Spaces fill up fast on a first-come, first-served basis

Whether it’s for a weekend, a full week, or even longer we would love to have you join us for exciting opportunities for a work retreat. No group is too small or too large, and we will find opportunities that match the capabilities and skill sets of your group. We can plan your time during any season and we will host your group for free.

Youth Work Retreats

Are you looking for an affordable way to take your youth group to a new level? Your teens can experience it all: 2-3 days working at Word of Life New York in a maintenance ministry setting, 2-3 days of Open Air Evangelism in a metropolitan setting such as New York City, and much more. We can customize your trip to accomplish any objectives you may have for your youth group. Your only other expenses are transportation and meals before arrival and after departure from Word of Life.


For this opportunity there is a $200 per participant fee to cover the cost of transportation, meals, and housing in New York City. There is no cost for meals and housing at the Bible Institute.

Summer Camp Helpers

Word of Life utilizes teens and college age individuals, as well as some teachers and retirees each summer to accomplish a myriad of service-related tasks. We also have a great need for registered nurses to work at our camp properties. Enjoy the adventure of summer camp, fellowship and discipleship with your peers and Word of Life’s trained staff. Come with a servant’s heart and your life will never be the same.
