Word of Life began in Uganda in 2003 with Thomas and Faith Obunde as missionaries there. Shortly thereafter camping and Bible Club ministries were started reaching thousands of youth today.

During the last part of 2003 Word of Life had the opportunity to rent a facility and begin a International Christian school that now has 110 students. As the ministry grew, the team grew with new staff added. With the addition of these staff members, Word of Life Uganda was able to begin additional ministries. These included office Bible Studies, university ministry, Local Church Bible Clubs, Christian camping, a discipleship ministry, vocational Camp, open air evangelism, International Camp to Kenya, and many other ministries. In 2005 the contract on the rented property ran out and Word of Life Uganda had to find a new location for their Work. They moved to another rented facility in Muyenga.This too became too small within a short time and Word of Life Uganda had to find a facility that would house all its ministries.
