Word of Life Philippines Typhoon Recovery Project

Donate to the Philippines Typhoon Recovery Project

September 28, 2006

Dear Friends of the Word of Life Philippines:

Psalm 24:1 "The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein."

What a fresh reminder from today's Word of Life Quiet Time Diary! God is sovereign and fully aware that Typhoon Xangsane, with its 130 kph winds, would devastate the northern Philippines. As I write, heavy rains, deadly flooding and mudslides are currently impacting the Manila area.

Mike Foster, our Philippines Field Director, has just reported extensive damage to our new Word of Life youth camp property in the Laguna area. The river nearby rose over 35 feet destroying numerous staff homes. The Bible Institute classroom and adjoining library are presently under four feet of water. Almost all roofs will need to be replaced. Roughly 1,000 fruit trees depended upon for food and income are down throughout the property. In the midst of this loss, we are rejoicing that our entire missionary team and 95 campers are all are safe and accounted for.

Please pray for our Philippine missionary team as they are without electricity and water and face the daunting task of rebuilding our Bible Institute and camp where over 20,000 young people are exposed to the gospel every year.

Periodic updates and photos will be posted on our web site at: www.wol.org. While it is too early to know the extent of the damage, we know that tens of thousands of dollars will be needed in the days ahead. With this mind, a Typhoon Recovery Project account has been opened. Donations may be made on the web or mailed to Word of Life, Typhoon Recovery Project, P.O. Box 600, Schroon Lake, NY 12870. If you are interested in forming or joining a work team to assist in the rebuilding process, please contact our Nehemiah Network staff by phone at 518-494-6338 or e-mail at nn@wol.org.

Thanks, in advance, for standing behind our Philippine team and for prayerfully considering how you or your church can get involved in this project.

In His Service
