Word of Life Nigeria Staff

Peter & Bette Verkaik Director Peter and Bette have been with WOL for 12 years and on the field for 6 of those. They have a heart for the Fulani people and have two Discipleship Training Centers for the converts. The Fulani people are predominantly Muslim and suffer persecution when they come to Christ. They also have begun the Word of Life Bible Club ministry in Nigeria. Nearly 50 churches are running the Bible Club program and many more are interested. Another aspect of ministry are evangelism crusades to the general population of Nigeria. There have been great results! In 2006, there were 17,529 Nigerians that were exposed to the Gospel and 5,728 have accepted Christ! In March of 2006, a team of 5 young people came to Nigeria from Word of Life Argentina. Their purpose was to train our Nigerian team to perform the exciting drama, "Born Again to a Living Hope." Since March, our Nigerian team has done many performances and 3,352 Nigerian young people have accepted Christ. We praise the Lord for these results!   Bob & Meredith DeVoe National Co-ordinator for Word of Life Bible Clubs Bob and Meredith came to Nigeria in August of 2006. They have been a great asset to our team. Bob is shouldering the responsibility for the Bible Club ministry and is taking it to a new level. Meredith brings her musical talents (singing, song writing and guitar playing) to the team, which was desperately needed. Their children, Ryan and Sarah, also help in the ministry during the evangelism crusades.   Barry & Deborah Bass Bible Club Missionary-ECWA Division Barry and Deborah have been in the USA for almost a year now. They moved to Schroon Lake, NY to be discipled by the Home Office staff at Word of Life Headquarters. Barry serves as the Bible Club Co-ordinator for ECWA (Evangelical Churches of West Africa) here in Nigeria. They were recently accepted by the Word of Life Board of Directors to full missionary status and are currently raising their prayer and financial support. They hope to return to Nigeria to resume their work with Bible Clubs by October/November 2007.   Ibrahim & Laraba Isah Central DTC Director Ibrahim is the full-time Director of the Fulani Discipleship Training Center in Jos, Plateau State. He also acts as translator and guide when he and Peter go into the bush to visit the Fulani.   Habibu & Ruth Adams Northern DTC Director Habibu and Ruth live in northern Nigeria and have a Fulani Discipleship Training Center there in Borno State. Habibu has started 4 house churches and seen hundreds of Fulani people accept Christ as their Savior.   Matthew & Kacholom Gyang Evangelism Co-ordinator As Evangelism Co-ordinator, Matthew helps to set up the weekend Evangelism Crusades by working with the Chief and local Pastors of each village. Matthew is also a qualified Community Healthcare Worker and as such he conducts Evangelistic Medical Clinics in the rural areas.
